Hilal Urdu

Hilal Urdu is a prominent publication by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of Pakistan. It began as a weekly Urdu magazine named ‘Mujahid’ in 1948, and has since been a significant source of news and analysis, particularly regarding Pakistan’s defense and security. Here are some key aspects of Hilal Urdu:

  1. Historical Significance:

    • Launched from Malir in 1948, it initially featured felicitation messages from the Founder of Pakistan and other top civil and military leadership.
  2. Evolution of the Magazine:

    • The magazine was closed in 1952 and was replaced by a new magazine named Hilal in Urdu language.
    • It became a daily for a few years in October 1952 and reverted back to a weekly in 1964.
    • In August 2007, it expanded to include an English edition and was published as a single monthly bilingual magazine.
    • From November 2014, Hilal English and Hilal Urdu have been published as separate magazines.
